What attracted you to KWL and how long have you been here?
I successfully applied to become a Business Unit Leader with KWL and started work with the company at the very start in 2007.

How is it going so far? Are there any differences with your previous job?
Since 2007 KWL has developed at a tremendous pace and in 2013 I was promoted to become the Operations Manager, responsible for all of the operational teams involved with construction and maintenance. The job is challenging; rewarding and provides me with the opportunity to really make a difference with what I hope is a positive impact within the Company and also with our stakeholders.

What does your job entail and how does this involve other KWL staff members?
I work on a wide range of activities and my role is to lead, manage and support the operational managers and their teams. My days are very varied which makes life interesting. I could be in negotiations with the Trade Unions in a morning, visiting sites in an afternoon and then meeting new apprentices and their parents at an event on an evening. No two days are the same.

What inspires you?
Seeing results is critical in terms of how we perform on the contracts that we deliver. If we are meeting out targets it inevitably leads to having satisfied customers and clients. If we are attending jobs when we are expected to and completing repairs right first time, the customer is receiving the service that they deserve to be given.

The company has been successful in supporting individuals at KWL who were KWL apprentices and developed into full time employment – what is your story?
From leaving school I started work at 8am on 8th of the 8th 1988 as an Apprentice Electrician which could have been a lucky sign. During my apprenticeship I was Craft Apprentice of the Year for two consecutive years. Ten years later I became a Supervisor; then Senior Supervisor to Assistant Maintenance Manager and on the 1st April 2007 I started my role as Business Unit Leader. I am now the Operations Manager with KWL and a Chartered Manager. I am very proud of my achievements and feel that I have been on quite a journey through my career.

What advice would you give to anyone interested in working for KWL?
Fill in an application. KWL is an excellent Company to work for and if you have the right outlook there is opportunity to progress through the company if that is the goal. I can vouch for that!

What do you enjoy most about working at KWL?
What I enjoy most are the people who I work with and that is really important to me because work is a big part of life.
